Are you thinking of having your driveway repaved this year?  Maybe you are the owner of a commercial retail shop that needs a new parking lot?  If so you will need to work with paving contractors to get the job done.  But finding the right contractor can be a difficult process if you don’t know what to look for.  Today we are going to learn some tips that will help hiring paving contractors easier and less stressful.

Four Tips for Hiring Paving Contractors

  1. Get upfront in writing quotes:

A great way to find a contractor that is affordable make sure to get an upfront quote. Most contractors will gladly give you a quote and many will come out and look at the job in person.  Having a quote will help you avoid those surprise fees that some companies like to add at the end of the job.

  2. Ask for proof of liability insurance:

In order to protect yourself while the contractor is working on your property make sure they are insured. A contractor that has taken the time to get properly insured shows his or her professionalism. Not only is your property protected by liability insurance but so will those people who are working on your job.  This is very important in case an injury occurs.

  3. Ask them for references:

When interviewing, paving contractors make sure to ask for references. But make sure you follow up with the names of the people you have been given. This will give you a great idea about the type of work the contractor does and what type of person they are.  If, however a contractor cannot come up with at least a few references you should avoid using them.

  4. Visit their past job-sites:

If possible go out and look at some of the contractor’s previous jobs. This will give you a good idea of what to expect.  Make sure to take along a pen and paper with you.  If you come up with any questions while inspecting the job write them down so you can talk to the contractor about them.
